The World Of Marie Laveau

As part of my ongoing research about the life and times of Marie Laveau, the famed New Orleans spiritual leader, I have been working on a book. This book focuses on the life of Marie through the lens of the world around her. Yes, it will focus on the things unseen, but also the things that we can see and touch. I'm going out on a ledge and framing it as an archaeological/anthropological exploration into her world—but of course grounded in the archives. There is much to be learned about Marie through her experience in the material world, just as there is to be learned through the historical record. I have uncovered some new and exciting discoveries about her life as a thriving free woman of color in nineteenth-century New Orleans. I can't wait to share what I have learned. Stay tuned!
